Trondheim
is one of the oldest cities in Scandinavia and has more than 1000 year’s experience of welcoming guest from home and abroad. Since the city was founded by king Olav Tryggvasson in 997, it has been a hub of activity and a popular venue for events.

In Trondheim you will find one of Norway’s most visited destinations both for pilgrims and tourists: The Nidaros cathedral which was built over the tomb of St. Olav. Other historical sights are The Crown Jewels (opens June 2006), The Archbishop’s Palace, Monk’s Island, The Old Town Bridge, Stiftsgården - the royal residence in Trondheim and Ringve which is Norway’s national museum for music and musical instruments.

Norway’s largest religious and cultural festival, The St. Olavs Festival takes place every year in July/August. The festival presents a comprehensive programme for all with more than 3000 performances. Other annual festivals are Trondheim Chamber Music Festival, Trondheim Blues Festival, Kosmorama International Film Festival and Trondheim Jazz Festival.
Today, Trondheim is the third largest city in Norway, and a major centre for high technology, research and education. A big village – or a small city. A city where the past and the present meet.
