Hadeland is the country of Hades, which means the land of the warriors. Hadeland has always been a rich and attractive area where the inhabitants have always had to fight for their independence. The Hades warriors were both feared and notorious and their heads were supposedly slightly tetrahedral in shape. Their helmets were therefore not considered to be good loot.
Today we appear a lot more friendly, but our interesting Viking history is still apparent in several of Hadeland’s attractions even today. Our main attraction is Hadeland Glass factory which has almost 600,000 visitors a year. In 2005, it was the third most visited tourist attraction in Norway.
Hadeland has Norway’s best canoeing areas and rich opportunities for fishing. Hadeland is also one of the most reliable areas for snow in Eastern Norway and has great skiing. The pilgrimage route through Hadeland is unique with all its historic sights. Get to know our museums, galleries, art, crafts and historical attractions where several are national “icons” within their own genre. Indeed, the journey itself through the cultural landscape is an attraction in itself.
The hospitable land of Hadeland: Your hosts have stamped their own character through the generations on Hadeland’s many conference and accommodation venues. You should never leave Hadeland hungry, only keen to come back. Hadeland has what you want whether you just need a single bed or to organise a conference.
The accessible land: Hadeland is close if you live in Oslo, Akershus, Hedmark or Buskerud. One of our success factors is just the short distance to Norway’s largest population centres and, in more recent years, an airport.
Take time to come for a short visit to our website and you will be sure to find something just for you; www.visithadeland.no
