With a mainland coastline of 13,264 miles as well as countless fjords, lakes and rivers, Norway is a fisherman's paradise.
For the fish lover there is cod, coalfish and mackerel to be caught all along the coast, and salmon, sea trout and red char swim in many rivers. Freshwater lakes and ponds are abundant with pike, perch, eel, trout and char.
Fishing requirements are easy - you just pay the set fees, which may be both state and local, obtainable from Post Offices and payable for anyone over 16 years of age. Fishing in the fjords and sea is free of charge. Fishing with live bait is forbidden in Norway.
The Directorate for Nature Management offers more information on rules and regulations.
