Cabin holidays in Norway are very popular with both Norwegian and foreign tourists. You can rent a cabin by the coast and the fjords, in the woods, valleys and the mountains. You can find cabins for both short and long-term lets.
Cabin lettings are predominantly organised through professional agencies, but local and regional tourist offices can often help with making contact.
Trekkers’ lodges: mountain lodges are everywhere in the mountains, either operated by the
Norwegian Trekking Association’s local branches or some that are privately owned and operated lodges.
The lodges which are part of the network of The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) come in three categories: staffed lodges serving breakfast and dinner, self-service where you may buy food to prepare yourself, and no service cabins which usually have the same equipment as self-service cabins, but you must bring your own food. The privately operated lodges have full service and are close to hotel standard. The prices are moderate and often the meals are paid for separately. At the DNT lodges, members pay a discounted price and some of the private lodges give a discount to DNT members. The mountain lodges are known for their informal, sporty and homely atmosphere which makes many visitors return.
Holiday houses You can rent a holiday home for both short and long periods.
Holiday homes rentals are arranged through separate agencies, advertisements in the newspaper or through local tourist offices. Staying in a holiday home gives you greater freedom to suit yourself and make yourself at home.
